Solo trip to ChiangMai, Thailand {26-30 March 2015}

Reception counter of my Inn. Helpful girl at the counter though with limited English.

Actually this trip supposed to be me and my friend.  However, a week before departure she backed out because she’s still depressed about her boyfriend passing.  I have paid for our flight tickets and accommodation for 4 nights months before the trip so, yeah, fuck it..I’m going.  So began my first solo trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I’m nervous before boarding the Air Asia flight, super awkward at the immigration line with about 200 tourists from China mainland.  They are so loud, rude and their children are like creature from hell..screaming and fighting and their parents didn’t do anything to shut them out.  Felt so relieved when I’m out of immigration line and off to collect my luggage.  Once out from the arrival hall and looking for taxi to go to hostel, I’m so proud of myself hahaha..beautiful day to arrive in Chiang Mai.

Overall, it was a wonderful journey .. and I love every bit of the time I have spent there.

Photos that I took on my phone during my trip…

Some of the many travellers that had spent their time at Tree Residence, Chiangmai

The hostel that I stayed was called Tree Residence, Chiang Mai.  The owner likes to take photos of some of the travellers that had stayed there and posted on their wall.  I didn’t take any lol..

Small but cozy and comfy.2015-03-26-15-51-44_photo

Booked twin beds room but request for queen bed since I’m alone.  Just nice for one person.  Small but cozy and comfy.First day was just checked in and walked around the hostel since I reached there already in the evening.  Dinner was just canned food and instant noodle that I bought from home.

On second day, I explored the area and the small town.  There’s tuk-tuk available to ferry people to main city.  I walked to the nearby waterfront area, with few blocks of shops, convenient stores and fish/meat market.  At night, its quite busy with road side vendors.  Went back to hostel and check with the receptionist if there is any available tour to Chiang Rai the next day.  Yes, lucky.  Apparently there extra seat for a day tour-package ChiangMai – ChiangRai, which cost amounted to Baht900.00 (MYR90.00). Together on the trip were another four couples together with me (one couple from Malaysia), two couples from China (honeymooners & mother-daughter) and one couple from England.

The whole experience was just wonderful, except that I forgot to tell them before hand that I’m a Muslim and set lunch was arranged at pork restaurant (delicacy of ChiangRai) *sigh* 😦  So,  I skipped lunch.  It’s ok but yup, I’m super hungry until back to my Inn, cook instant noodles that I bought from home, and grilled prawns at the Night bazaar.. hehehe..

Some photos that I took during the tour..

So, I spent all my Baht money on night bazaar with some souvenirs and forgot to keep Baht100k for airport tax.   Woke up early in the morning and looking for ATM at 7-Eleven.  No ATM.  Asked the staff there if there is any ATM machine nearby, luckily there are few at the waterfront area, in front of the convenient stores.  Rushing to cross the road in busy morning, looking of ATM and finally managed to withdrew Baht150k. *fuh*..Called taxi at 12:00noon …off to airport, slightly expensive than arriving fares (can’t remember).  Reached airport around 12:30pm due to traffic jammed.  Looking for Air Asia counter..found it at the far end. Checked in successfully without problem. Lounge at the coffee shop for about 2 hours before going in for boarding.  Reached KLIA2 around 9:00pm.  Finally home at 10:30pm.

Next adventure ~ South Korea…with friends 😀

Sweet & crunchy pineapples, the signature fruit of Chiang Rai.
